TIREDNESS : SIGNS, CAUSES, AND NATURAL PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

 TIREDNESS:

The human body is designed to do various types of work and in today’s competitive world, it is important to work hard to achieve the desired goal.

The question here is what is that important thing which can help us to work more and the answer for that is ENERGY.

Just like petrol is needed for cars to run, in the same way, food acts as the fuel which is needed by our body to produce energy for us.

In this blog, we will discuss what are the major causes of tiredness and what can be done to improve our health and make us energetic.

A person who feels tired can find it difficult to do normal daily work and sometimes it can be difficult to get up from the bed.

Tiredness can be due to various reasons and it is important to find the cause of it and then treat it accordingly so that a person can get the required energy to lead a normal life.

CAUSES OF TIREDNESS :

1) INADEQUATE DIET: one of the common causes of tiredness especially in developing nations is inadequate diet as most of the population live below the poverty line and find it difficult to get nutritional meals three times a day.

2) LOW NUTRIENT CONTENT:  It is one more reason for tiredness as the body doesn’t get the required nutrient. It is mostly seen in people living in developed countries and leading a busy life and are mostly inclined towards eating oily and fatty food like pizza, and burgers which don’t have enough nutritional content to provide adequate energy and makes a person feel low and sleepy.

3) OLD AGE: it is seen that older age groups people are more prone to tiredness as with increased age metabolism rate of the body is decreased and the body finds it difficult to extract enough energy from the food taken.

4) LOW HAEMOGLOBIN LEVEL: Blood contains hemoglobin which is important for carrying oxygen to cells of the body to function properly and the person can feel tired if they have a low hemoglobin level due to lack of oxygen. It is mostly seen in females, especially in young girls.

5) DISEASE: A person suffering from a disease like diabetes, any infection in the body, cardiac problem, or any chronic disease can make a person feel weak.

6) DEHYDRATION: water is very important for proper body functioning and a dehydrated person can feel weak and sleepy. Excess vomiting or diarrhea can also cause dehydration and weakness.

7) LESS SLEEP –  It is seen that people who don’t get enough sleep and rest mostly feel weak and low on energy.

8) EXCESS ALCOHOL: Too much alcohol can damage the liver and it slows down the glucose production from the liver which can lead to weakness which keeps on increasing with more liver damage.

9) PREGNANCY: pregnant women can feel weak because energy requirement is increased during pregnancy and if the women are not getting sufficient diet then weakness is common in them.

10) EXCESSIVE EXERCISE: sometimes when we workout for long hours in the gym then our muscles get fatigued and we feel weak and tired.

SIGNS OF TIREDNESS

Some of the common signs of weakness include feeling sleepy most part of the day, finding it difficult to get up from the bed, giddiness ( spinning of head), headache, irritation, weight loss, and depression.

INVESTIGATION :

If a person is feeling tired even after taking a proper diet then they should meet the doctor to find out the cause for weakness.

After proper history taking, the doctor may advise the person to get some blood tests done which can include hemoglobin level, sugar level ( FBS, PPBS OR RBS), CBC can be done to rule out any infections, urine routine can be done too.

ECG can be done if any cardiac condition is suspected of tiredness.

A chest x-ray can be done if any chest infection is suspected as a possible cause of tiredness.

MANAGEMENT :

1) ADEQUATE DIET  It is important for every human being especially children to get three meals every day so that the body can get enough carbohydrates, vitamins and other important nutrients to produce energy which is required by us to feel energetic and do our work.

2) GOOD QUALITY DIET – Sometimes people eat a good quantity of diet every day but the quality is not what is required by the body. Eating fried, fatty, oily food can increase the cholesterol level of the body and slowly also damage the liver which affects glucose production. So it is important to add quality food to our diet which includes :

Green leafy vegetables, fruits.

Fish, chicken, and eggs.

Milk

Low salt and sugar diet

Soya chunks, pulses, wheat flour bread.

Beetroot is good, especially in people with low hemoglobin levels.

3) PROPER EXERCISE: weight training, and yoga can help improve blood circulation in our body and also improve our muscle strength which helps to make us feel energetic.

4) WATER: keeping yourself hydrated is important because our needs water to perform the various function and also to remove waste from our bodies. If water is not adequate then the body will try to conserve water and with it, waste products will be also left in our body and this can make people prone to disease and weakness.

5) PREGNANCY: In the case of pregnancy it is important to get an adequate diet as body requirements increase during this time. A healthy and balanced diet should be used which includes vegetables, fruits, milk, and animal protein like fish, chicken, and eggs.

6) ALCOHOL: It is important to stop alcohol drinking as it damages the liver and can make a person weak and sick of liver disease.

7) DISEASE: If the person is suffering from any disease like diabetes, or kidney or liver disease, then it’s important to get advice from the doctor and take the medicines, and diet as advised by the doctor to maintain good health.

8) SLEEP: Our body needs enough rest to repair the damages which are done throughout the day when we are awake and working. Seven to eight hours of sleep is important for repairing the damage and this helps us feel energetic and also improves our concentration level during our work.

9) OLD AGE CARE: Due to the slow metabolic rate old age people can not digest food easily and it can make them weak. So it’s better to include food with high fiber content like wheat bread, vegetables, and fruits in the diet which they can digest easily and effectively and get more energy.

10) FRUITS AND VEGETABLES – fruits like oranges, grapes, apples, bananas, and vegetables like spinach, carrot, beetroot, cauliflower, beans can be included in the diet as they are a rich source of vitamins and minerals.
