Medical staff of the Indian cricket team plays a pivotal role, especially in a competitive sport like cricket.

Indian National Cricket Team which is also known as Team India is currently in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA) for the T20 World Cup 2024 and the players are looking absolutely fit, healthy, and in great shape for the World Cup.

Today we will know about the medical and para-medical staff who are working with Team India day and night to keep them match-fit.

MEDICAL STAFF OF THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM-

A) DR. CHARLES MINZ-

He is the chief medical officer at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He joined the team in 2021 and is continuing till date.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND – He holds the degree of MBBS (BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND BACHELOR OF SURGERY) and MD in Community Health and preventive medicine studied at Mahatma Gandhi Institute Of Medical Sciences, sewagram, Wardha, Maharashtra. He also has an Associate fellow in industrial health and a diploma in football medicine.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND – He was the chief medical officer for the ICC World Cup 2023, IPL 2022,2023 and 2024. He has also served as chief medical officer for the WPL. Team Doctor for RCB (ROYAL CHALLENGER BANGLORE) in IPL and FC PUNE CITY in ISL (INDIAN SOCCER LEAGUE).

B) NITIN PATEL

He is the team physiotherapist for the Indian cricket team at the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He joined the team in Aug 2019 and is continuing till date.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND- He has a Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Nottingham.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND- He was the head physiotherapist for BCCI from 2007-2015, head physiotherapist for Mumbai Indians from 2008-2019, Lead physiotherapist for Cricket All-stars from 2015-2019, Senior physiotherapist in NHS ( National Health Services).

C) KAMLESH JAIN

He is the physio of the Indian cricket team. He joined the team in June 2022 and is working till date.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND- He has done a Master’s in sports therapy (sports and exercise)from London Metropolitan University.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND- He was the head physio for the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders from July 2019 to June 2022 and before that, he worked for Kolkata Knight Riders as an assistant physiotherapist for 7 years. He was the head physio for the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2011 to 2017.

D) SOHAM DESAI-

He is the lead Strength and conditioning coach working with BCCI from November 2021 till date.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION- He has done MSc performance coaching. Applied Strength and conditioning from Setanta College.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND- He was the strength and conditioning coach for the Gujrat Cricket Association from June 2014 to May 2016.

E) SUDARSAN V P –

He is the strength and conditioning coach at NCA, BCCI working from June 2022 till date working from June 2022 till date.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND- He has done a Master’s in physical education. M. Phil physical education and sports.

F) ANAND DATE-

He is the strength and conditioning coach for the Indian women’s cricket team at BCCI.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND- He has a Master’s degree in Kinesiology and Excercise from Boise State University.

SUMMARY OF MEDICAL STAFF OF THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM-

These are some of the medical staff of the Indian cricket team who work with players at the individual level as every player’s body condition is different and they require attention in different ways.

Many other medical and paramedical staff are also present who work at the National Cricket Academy which is a part of BCCI and try to improve the physical status of players at junior level and also in the women’s cricket team.

They plan the rehabilitation journey of many players who sustain major injuries or undergo surgery and try to make them match fit as soon as possible.
